Wedding Wednesday: Vintage DIY

{ 1 comment }
I’ve been meaning to start a weekly post for a while (is it sad that as a journalism major I had to google awhile vs a while?). Every Wednesday from now until the wedding, I’m going to (try to) post a wedding update or project. For the inaugural post, I thought I’d share with you one of the projects I’ve been working on for our dessert bar. Instead of a traditional wedding cake that costs an arm and a leg {seriously, the average wedding cake cost is $543! what the what?!} we’re going to have several small cakes, a few pies, and some other secret goodies (gotta leave a little mystery for the big day). To display all of these delectables I’m collecting/making vintage cake stands. I found this antique plate at one of my favorite thrift stores for $5.50. *Honestly, I was only looking to spend $2 or $3 a plate but this one was too perfect to pass up

I also bought a glass goblet for $1.75

After I carefully washed and dried both, I applied my new friend JB Weld to the bottom rim of the glass. Note: I taped the glass to the plate to ensure that neither moved, but this step probably isn’t necessary

24 hours later, I had my own custom vintage cake stand

Plate: $5.50

Goblet: $1.75

JB Weld: FREE! already had

Total Cost of Project: $7.25

Considering we just registered for a plain glass cake stand that cost $45 (and that was a relatively cheap one!) I’m pretty proud of my cheaper and more unique version. What DIY tasks have you been happy (or disappointed) with lately?
