As I mentioned, Saturday was Race for the Cure in Little Rock. We usually do the race with my mom, but my parents were in Vegas so it was just me and Melissa this year. Jacob’s mom and aunt were participating too.
Don’t we look lovely at 7 a.m.?
By the time we got to the starting area, the race was about to start. We tried to get as close to the starting line as we could, but they were still several thousand people in front of us when the race began. We randomly found our friends Wes and Autumn by the start, so Autumn joined Melissa and I while Wes went to find Jacob and Melissa’s boyfriend Ty who
begrudgingly lovingly came to cheer us on.
It took us a good 15 minutes to really start moving, but we made pretty good time once we got started. Melissa was fighting a cold and not quite in sprinting shape, so we alternated running and walking. I’ve always ran the Race for Cure for time, so it was fun to relax and take pictures on our walking breaks.
We were entertained by the local firefighters in their finest pink
local marching bands. . .
and plenty of balloons and spectators.
Yes, that’s a giant balloon hat you spy
We finished in 47 minutes and probably walked 1/3 of the time. Not too shabby!
It’s the third largest race in the world and thousands participated in the 17th Annual Komen Arkansas Race for the Cure. My grandmother and aunt both survived breast cancer and supporting the Race for the Cure is the least I can do to honor them.
See you again next year Race for the Cure!
