Hey guys, long time no see. Last week was crazy but I hope to make up for my lack of blogging with lots of posts this week. I just got back from an amazing and exhausting weekend in Little Rock, so this one will be quick.
Did I mention our friends Wes & Autumn got married yesterday?!
But first let’s start from the beginning of the day. All of the groomsmen, ushers, the groom, the bride and I ran the Little Rock Marathon 5k Saturday morning. It was raining and 40 degrees outside, with 30 mph winds. Not exactly ideal running weather.
I made Autumn a racing shirt that said “I’m getting married today” on the front and “Soon To Be Mrs. Yonez” on the back. Wes’ last name is Jones, but we all call him Yonez as a joke.
The 5k was a great way to start the wedding day, and it was really fun to run with Autumn and hear all the spectators congratulating her and asking what time the wedding was.
After the race we showered and headed to the Clinton Presidential Library to start the wedding festivities. Autumn and Wes had asked me to coordinate their wedding a few months ago, and I happily agreed. Obviously, having never coordinated a wedding before, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. It was such an honor to be so involved in the wedding, but it was A LOT of work. Autumn and I spent a lot of time before the wedding planning a detailed timeline for the day and even though the weather didn’t cooperate exactly, we stayed on schedule the entire day (which as you might know if you’ve ever been involved in a wedding, a huge success).
Overall, I think the wedding went extremely well. I channeled my inner wedding coordinator extraordinaire Shannon and quickly became best friends with the security guards, catering manager, and photographers. I had no idea how much work goes into being a wedding coordinator, and it was an eye-opening experience to step into their shoes for a day (but that’s a post for another day).
I don’t have any pictures of the ceremony or reception because I was running around like a madwoman all day, but I do have plenty of video. Jacob and I each carried a Flip camera all day, and between the two of us we took 108 videos!
Here’s a few sneak peeks:
As soon as we get the rest of the video edited together, I’ll share it with you guys. It’s going to be a good one.
After the wedding we met some friends for drinks in the River Market downtown and finally crashed around 1 in our hotel room. It was a jam-packed 19 hour day!
We were so excited that our hotel suite (thanks to Autumn & Wes’ generosity) was right above the starting line for the marathon. We planned to get up and see the start at 8 from our balcony.
Unfortunately, we forgot about the early start a 6. And the announcers. And the insanely loud music. It sounded like the speakers were set up in the corner of our room. It. Was. SO. LOUD.
Here’s the official start of the marathon and half-marathon from our balcony.
Yep, that’s what it sounded like in our room from 5:30 to 8 a.m.
I loved seeing everyone walking around with medals all morning, but kept getting reminded of how miserable I was in this same race last year.
Needless, to say I’m looking forward to getting some sleep in my own bed tonight. In fact, that’s where I’m heading right now.
