When I asked my boss a few weeks ago if I could leave early on a Friday to attend the wedding rehearsal of a friend in Little Rock (three hours away), she jokingly said, “Aren’t all of your friends married yet? You guys go to a wedding every other month.”
It’s a strange thing to grow up with a group of friends and stay close to them into adulthood. One day you’re sneaking out of class to go to the Pizza Hut Lunch Buffet together and the next day you’re planning a baby shower for them. It’s wonderful and it’s weird. These people have seen me at my most awkward. Even if months pass without seeing one another, we can pick up right where we left off. I can burst into tears over the silliest things and they don’t bat an eye. We can make each other laugh until we cry. It’s an understatement to say that we have been through a lot together.
Jacob and I are at the time in our lives when so many of our friends are married or are getting married or have children or are, you know, trying for children. We are lucky enough to have really close groups of friends from both high school and college that we still keep in touch with. I cherish these showers and weddings because often that is the only time we are all together. Plus, there’s generally booze involved.
Judging by my last few posts about my friend Michelle’s bridal shower and bachelorette party, you might have guessed that hers was the wedding we attended. It was beautiful wedding and Michelle looked gorgeous. We had a blast.
Congrats Meesh and Benson! Ricky and Haley, you guys are next!
